They said "oh hey there girl tell me what do you do?"
She said "um nothing but I'm damn sure it's more than you."

GENERAL

NAME: Ophelia Jane Noggins
NICKNAMES: It's Ophelia or nothing.
AGE/DOB: 17 / July 13th / Cancer
BLOOD STATUS: The purer side of halfblood.
GENDER/PRONOUNS: She/her
SEXUALITY: Ophelia has left a string of long-suffering ex-boyfriends in her wake, but gets suspiciously over-attached to her female friends and never likes their dates. Last year she had a meltdown over a girl at Hogwarts getting a boyfriend, and had to face that, yeah, she might not be straight.
HOMETOWN: New York City, New York, United States. She and her father live in a luxury apartment in the expensive South Central Park neighborhood.

CONCEPT: Overcompensating emotional basketcase out to prove she's better than all of you.

PHYSICAL

APPEARANCE: Ophelia is a slim, petite and very pretty girl with long red hair that reaches the middle of her back. It's naturally wavy, and Ophelia goes back and forth on straightening it. Ordinarily she dresses in a cute, girly style (lots of plaid skirts, knee socks and mary janes), but will readily embrace a highly manicured tomboy aesthetic when it's time to do anything athletic. Her roommates would be well aware that Ophelia isn't a natural redhead, and her real hair color is more of a dark blonde. But that's what magic's for, right?

Ophelia's also fairly muscular, and sports a number of scars earned roughhousing outside or playing sports. She's athletic, and some people might suspect she looks more comfortable in a pair of jeans and a jersey than the skirts and blouses she insists on wearing.

HEIGHT: 5'6"

PB: Bella Thorne

PERSONALITY

LIKES: Fencing, camping, being outdoors, roughhousing, swimming, sports, showing off, feeling tough, saving the day, praise, admiration, sparring, the soft sciences, attention, feeling like people think she's hot

DISLIKES: Math, being called a crybaby, sitting still, when people are arguing around her (nevermind that she gets in tons of arguments herself), boys (in a flimsy teenagery 'boys suck' way, even if she has guy friends), bugs, falling short, being ignored

PERSONALITY:

Ophelia had every intention of finishing high school at Hogwarts, but then she heard that her former school, Gooseberry, came down with a serious case of the haunts. She immediately sought to get back her spot at the alternative school, because if you haven't heard, Ophelia's a hero. Ophelia is a bold, brash girl, and if you can't handle someone being in your face constantly, you probably can't handle Ophelia. It's her dream to be not just an Auror, but the premier Auror. She walks around like it's her birthright, and she has an insatiable appetite for glory. It's no wonder she fit in so well with the Gryffindors at Hogwarts.

Ophelia manages to be a white knight and a bit of a bully at the same time. She wants the spotlight, and after she rushes to your aid she expects plenty of praise. Her image is very important to her, which might not be surprising since the last time Ophelia was at Gooseberry, she wasn't very popular. She was an ugly duckling with a bad personality that alienated a lot of her classmates, but after one year abroad she's returned as a beautiful, angry swan. She loves attention, especially romantic attention, and she's not shy about seeking it out. Although she's quick to proclaim that boys suck, she also adores having their validation. The realization that she's also attracted to girls has led to an interest in Grotto experimentation and, of course, more attention seeking behavior and flirting.

But some things about Ophelia haven't changed. She's still a girl ruled by her emotions, and is every inch the sensitive and moody Ebonhide. At her best, Ophelia is expressive and easily excited. She approaches new things with gusto, and drags people along with her if they're not careful. Her emotions are all very big. On the other hand, Ophelia's negative emotions are just as big. When upset, it's always a toss up as to whether she'll burst into tears or bite your head off. She has a well-earned reputation for being bossy and a little screechy, as well as a huge crybaby who turns on the waterworks when things don't go her way.

The thing is, Ophelia's perfectionism is always in high gear. When things go awry, she takes it too hard. She's extremely critical of herself as well as others, and needs to learn to cut everyone some slack. She's quick to snap at people for being stupid, but it's mostly because she's projecting. Ophelia is incredibly self-conscious about what she thinks is her own lack of intelligence. She struts around like she's hot shit, but deep down she worries constantly that everyone is more clever than she is. She's remarkably bad with numbers, which she sees as proof that she's not that bright. All this perfectionism does mean that Ophelia is a hard worker and very careful and precise. Between this and her bossy temperament, it makes Ophelia seem like a highly competent, ambitious girl. This reputation suits her just fine.

Ophelia is a very involved friend. If she likes you, she's always in your business, and if she smells a secret, she won't stop until she's gotten it out of you. She's actually pretty clingy, and tends to be That Friend. You know, the one who thinks your boyfriend is an idiot and you can do better. Outsiders and friends alike can find her impossible to please, but at least friends can benefit from her affection and helpfulness. She's a Fix-It kind of girl when a friend comes to her with a dilemma. Don't tell her you're having a problem unless you want her to blow the lid off everything and try to solve it for you.

Once Ophelia sinks her teeth into an idea, she's hard to dissuade. Tenacious, strong-willed and with a lot to prove, Ophelia's got a personality that's all or nothing. When she has a goal, her approach is organized, strategic, and often unstoppable. People become obstacles to avoid, scale or destroy. She's absolutely unrestrained in her ambition, and doesn't need to be reminded to shoot for the stars. In Ophelia's world, she has a right to anything and everything if she just works hard enough. Considering how she was raised, this has mostly ended up true. There's not much Ophelia's been denied, so long as she put out effort. Nowadays, this is how she looks at everything. Club president position? Hers. Good grades? Hers. The best clothes and gadgets? Hers. That hot senior? Well, give her a week and they'll be hers, too.

SKILLS

LANGUAGES SPOKEN: English, German

PATRONUS: To Ophelia's neverending irritation, she's very bad at the Patronus Charm. On the off chance she gets it out (thanks, Occlumency) it's a dalmatian.

SKILLS: Ophelia would insist she's good at basically anything and everything, but the reality is she's mostly talented at...
  • FENCING: Ophelia's a talented fencer, who's even competed in a few junior tournaments back home. Unfortunately, she's not a graceful loser or winner.

  • DEFENSE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS: Ophelia's real passion. She has every intention of being an Auror, and with her drive and dedication, she seems on track to accomplish her goals. She's a bit of a know-it-all on the topic, but is a better researcher than duelist.

  • WING CHUN: Ophelia picked up this lesser known martial art because it had a reputation for being no nonsense and effective against other fighting styles. In retrospect, she doesn't much care for how lacking in drama it is, but she's learned to throw down.

  • PERFORMING ARTS: Ophelia is a minor triple threat. While no one's going to be calling her a gift to the stage, she can sing, act and dance. Ophelia always wants the leads, and rarely gets them.

  • SPORTS: Ophelia enjoys athletics, and is a benefit to most teams she plays on. She's most fond of soccer and basketball, and loves pushing people to organize games with or for her.

  • OUTDOORSWOMAN: Ophelia's right at home out in the woods, and no amount of spooks and scares can keep her away. She's a confident camper, can hunt with a bow and arrow, and navigate wooded terrain like she was born there. However, she's also spoiled, and accustomed to having the best gear and equipment when she goes out.

HISTORY

FAMILY MEMBERS:

Arthur Noggins, father, Director of the MACUSA Auror Agency. Halfblood. Arthur is a doting but demanding father. Ophelia is the apple of his eye, and it's been just the two of them ever since she was born. It's safe to say she's a bit spoiled. On the other hand, though, Arthur has high expectations, and Ophelia never feels like she can meet them. He's not a father that Ophelia trusts to forgive her for any teen missteps.

HISTORY:

Ophelia's birth was not ordinary. She was born to a surrogate mother, and raised by a single father with no interest in marrying but who dearly wanted a child. Arthur Noggins wasn't yet at the head of the American Aurors, but at 36 he had a promising career and no family. For ages, Arthur had been satisfied with never settling down, and the only thing he missed was fatherhood. It wasn't until he was older and relatively wealthy that he decided that even if he didn't want a wife, he did want a child.

Arthur took a sabbatical from work to raise his newborn daughter, and Ophelia wanted for nothing. When Arthur returned to work, there were a lot of nannies and daycare centers in her life, but she never felt as though her father didn't put her first. There were lavish vacations, weekend camping trips, amazing birthday parties, breathtaking gifts. However, there were also high expectations. Arthur wanted his daughter to be exceptional, and she wanted to make her father happy. So she fought, she struggled, and typically, she exceeded. When her father was named director of the MACUSA Auror Agency, Ophelia knew that she needed to try even harder to live up to the family name.

Between her drive and her father's reputation, getting into Gooseberry was a breeze. Making friends, on the other hand, was harder. Ophelia was a bossy little tomboy, but that wasn't the problem; It was her personality. Ophelia was emotional, sensitive, and had a bad temper. The regular tantrums made her unpopular, although not to the point of being picked on. She loved the surrounding woods, but struggled to fit in with her peers. Freshman year wasn't the high school dream she'd hoped for, and she leapt at the chance to get into the exchange program and try somewhere new.

So Ophelia spent her sophomore year at Hogwarts, sorted into Gryffindor. With some hard work Ophelia remade herself, and became one of the popular girls. She traded on her Cool American Girl reputation, and went through a few British boyfriends. However, it was her roommate, Silvia Bickering, that she really bonded with. The pair were inseparable... until Silvia got a boyfriend herself. Ophelia had a meltdown, only then realizing that her feelings for Silvia were not strictly platonic.

While Ophelia was off having her overseas experience and learning a little about herself, Gooseberry was being troubled by an anxious forest spirit. When Ophelia learned what she'd missed out on, she was heartbroken. It had always been her dream to be an Auror just like her father, and after a year of living in the very place Harry Potter experienced his early exploits, she felt robbed. That should have been her coming of age adventure. She could have been a hero.

So back to Gooseberry it was. She'd missed the mountains and easy access to camping anyway. (Camping in the Forbidden Forest had been a definite no, although she did try once with a little group of foolhardy Gryffindors.) Ophelia returned to Utah a very different girl. Long hair, makeup, short skirts, alcohol and boys. An unhealthy dose of confidence and Ophelia had become both more and less tolerable than she used to be. It took a few months to prove herself, but she was awarded the position of Outdoor Exploration president, and Gooseberry's promising to be just as dangerous as last year. Things seem to be lining up perfectly for Ophelia.

SCHOOL

YEAR: Junior
HOUSE: Ebonhide, Gryffindor
SORTING: Emotional, intense Ophelia never stood a chance of ending up in any other house. During her sorting, she practically begged the fox to let her into Coppertale, and all the emblems had to briefly work together to convince her that Ebonhide was her real home. She relented, but not happily. Over the years, she came around. Ophelia's proud to be a bear.
WAND: Holly, phoenix feather core, 10 1/4", swishy. Ophelia sometimes struggles with her wand if she gets sloppy, but when she's on point, it's remarkably powerful.
FAMILIAR:

CLASSES: Charms, Outdoor Education, Herbology, History of Magic, Potions, Magizoology, Defense Against the Dark Arts
ADVANCED STUDY: Occlumency
SENIOR PROJECT: Ophelia's dreams of doing something Occlumency related are looking dim, but she still had time to right this ship.
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE: Ophelia does well, but never as well as she wants to. In her mind, A's are the only acceptable grades, and a C is failing. She's in a constant state of comparing herself to her friends, and gets worked up when they do better than her. Overall, she gets a mix of A's and B's. Her best class is Defense Against the Dark Arts, but Transfiguration usually leaves her struggling. She's not mathematically gifted, and probably has dyscalculia. However, she assumes it's just because she's stupid. Ophelia would love to be good at the hard sciences, and takes her failures in those fields as a sign of her lack of brains. She had to drop Astronomy halfway through sophomore year, amidst many tears.

Much to her dismay, she's not a natural at Occlumency either. While she may glide through the Auror-centric parts of the class, when it comes down to clearing her mind and repressing her emotions, it's no good. She often ends up crying out of frustration in the middle of class, or otherwise losing her temper.

EXTRACURRICULARS:
  • D&F: She's a good duelist, but an excellent fencer.

  • Outdoor Exploration (president): Recently, this returning student was awarded the position of OE president. Ophelia is over the moon about her new responsibilities, and tends to be a bossy, my-way-or-the-highway type of leader. Still, she's passionate and assertive, and always on the lookout for safety violations.
